Why do the ILS web pages look like this?

The ILS web pages were designed using the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standard XHTML (Extensible Hypertext Mark up Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) layout. The following browsers were set as benchmarks.

Browsers that SHOULD read the CSS:

Why did we make this decision?

We decided to provide all content accessible. Separating content from styling allow access to all patrons.

All browsers not in the previous list might NOT be able to read the style sheet. This means the page displays as a long list. The University of Texas at Austin estimates 1.3% of viewers will not see the page with the CSS, but people using those browsers will be granted access rather than a non-functioning page. The CSS used complies with W3C standards.

How can I update my browser?

A list of recommended browsers with downloads is available in the University of Texas at Austin Web Guidelines.
